A fortress for all

Königstein Fortress is designed to be accessible and enjoyable for people with disabilities. A number of measures have been implemented to support this. For example, visitors can reach the fortress by lift. There are also tactile models for people with visual impairments, as well as information in Braille and raised tactile lettering, positioned at a height suitable for wheelchair users.

The toilets are designed to be accessible, and routes unsuitable for wheelchair users are clearly marked. The majority of the exhibitions are accessible without steps.

The audio guide is available in ten languages (German, English, French, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Czech and Chinese) and is available to borrow on site. It can also be used as a smartphone app. In addition, there is an audio guide in easy language (German, English, Czech and Polish) and a video guide in German sign language.

Accessibility in the permanent exhibition

The permanent exhibition at the Military History Museum in the New Armoury at Königstein Fortress is accessible to wheelchair users via a ramp. As it is located on a single floor, there are no stairs within the exhibition itself.
