Entry to the permanent exhibition at the Military History Museum at Königstein Fortress is free of charge. However, visitors must pay to visit the fortress.

Free admission upon presentation of proof of eligibility:

  • Holders of the Saxon Family Pass
  • Children under 6 years of age
Concessions

Reduced admission is available to the following groups (proof required):

  • Schoolchildren aged 7 and over, students, trainees and apprentices
  • People with disabilities with a degree of disability of over 50 (with appropriate ID) – free admission for one accompanying person if the disability ID is marked with “B”
  • Participants in the Federal Voluntary Service (BFD), the Voluntary Social Year (FSJ) or the Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ)
  • Recipients of unemployment benefit or citizen’s income with a valid benefits notice
  • Recipients of social assistance with a valid benefits notice issued within the last 12 months
  • Recipients of benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act with a valid benefits notice issued within the last 12 months
  • Journeymen on traditional travels (e.g. carpenters)

Railway, S-Bahn line S1: “Meißen – Dresden – Königstein – Schöna” 
From Königstein Station, you can take the Festungsexpress bus.

Bus routes 241 (Pirna – Hinterhermsdorf) and 246 (Pirna – Königstein) 
Alight at Am Königstein, approx. 5-minute walk, or Vogelstein/Festung, Thürmsdorf, approximately 15-minute walk

By boat with Sächsische Dampfschifffahrt 
Routes: Dresden to Königstein and Bad Schandau to Königstein

From the Königstein landing stage, take the Festungsexpress bus. 
 

By car:

Via the A17 motorway: take the Pirna exit and follow the B172 to Bad Schandau 
Via the A17 motorway: take the Bahretal exit and follow the K 8732 district road to Krietzschwitz, then the B172 to Bad Schandau

About 1.5 km after the roundabout (Struppen/Leupoldishain), take the turn-off towards Königstein Fortress

Parking at Königstein Fortress

The Festung Königstein multistorey car park on the B172 (exit Festung) is just 650 metres from the fortress. The car park is open 24 hours a day all year round.

Motorcycles can be parked free of charge. Lockers are available for a small fee.
